I’m not going to lie. I’m a young latina girl and I get stereotyped all the time. I remember when I was younger some people that parents knew say “oh, you know how girls are now in day. Belem will get pregnant and the moment I heard that I was set on proving them wrong. Turns out I left my little town with good grades and determination to finish college while their daughter (who are younger then me) got pregnant. One of them was a eight grader. I’m not looking down girls that got pregnant. I have good friends who got pregnant young and they are great mothers! I want to educate people and the best way I can is by recommending people to read the book The Pregnancy Project. It gave me a outlook on teen pregnancy and also stereotypes. I feel like Gaby express what it is really like and open people eyes.
Gaby decided to fake her own pregnancy as her senior project with the help of her mom and her boyfriend Jorge. She kept this all a secret from her brothers and sisters and even Jorge family. All her life she was told she was going to end up like her older sister and become a teen mom. It almost seem like it runs in the family starting off with her mother and continue to her sisters and her brothers that they all become parents really young. Nothing matter anymore, she was just another statistic. She gave up a normal Senior year for this project. When everyone around her only saw her belly, friends, classmates and even teachers. She learned the meaning of family, friendship and so much more. After you read the book I recommend watching the lifetime movie.
